What type of licensing does SmartWorks have. Is it concurrent licensing? |

The user licenses are 'seat licenses'.
A user is a PC. So when we say 10 user license we mean a 10 seat license. The licenses are tied to the work stations where you have installed the software.
Say you have purchased the server that supports 10 licenses. 10 clients have already connected to the server. It is not possible for the 11th client to connect to the server, even when one of these 10 clients log off.
In this scenario, you can make use of the 'Clear License' option available at the server. This will clear all the connected licenses and a new set of 10 connections can be made. |

What is the difference between Project Planner editions and SmartWorks editions? |
|

SmartWorks packages shall have the Smart Tracker (an issue tracking tool) and the Meeting Manager (a tool to schedule and track meetings) along with the Project Planner (Project Management software), whereas the Project Planner editions have only the Project Planner software in it

In version 4.7 and above, users can enter the actual effort spent ( in hours ) while changing the status of the task. The Actual End date will be set to the date when the status is changed to Complete or to an equivalent status and the Actual Start date will be calculated based on the actual duration that is entered |

The Personal Edition is a stand-alone edition that can be used by a single person only, whereas the Enterprise Edition has the client-server setup and all project participants can logon to the server and can take the responsibility of their tasks in the project |

Yes, you are right. Small Office has the same features as the Enterprise.
All the multi-user versions have similar features. The only difference is the number of clients that can connect depends on the number of licenses

You are having problems with printing Gantt chart as you are using SmartWorks 2.0. I got an error "Invalid Project Mnemonic" - Error value 2401 when I tried to add a new project in SmartWorks - ProjectPlanner/ SmartTracker/ Meeting Manager
. I'm not able to figure out what went wrong? |

It is possible that you have keyed in an invalid project mnemonic in the first step of the project wizard. A project mnemonic can be alphanumeric but must start with a character only, say 'test124' for example. It cannot accept any special characters, underscore, hyphen or spaces.
So please change the project mnemonic in the first step of the project wizard and the problem will be solved |

I started the SmartWorks server but when I tried to connect the SmartWorks client, it reported that no server was found. What do I do? |
|
|
It is possible that the server has shut down. You can see this by trying to right click on the server's icon in the system tray on the server PC or you can see the service manager if the server is running as a service.
If the server is not up for some reason, please go to Start / Programs / SmartWorks menu and restart the server. If the server does not start, please check whether port 6900 is occupied by some other application. (SmartWorks server runs at port 6900 by default) Please run Server manager and change the port number. Restart the server now.

I have downloaded the Personal Edition of the Project Planner and installed it on my PC. Using the product I was not able to figure out how to delete a project from the project list. As I think I will create several projects just to test the product, I would like to be able to delete them, once they are not needed. |

If the project deletion feature is not present, then you may be using the 2.0 version, which does not have this feature. Also note that the 2.0 version is no longer offered. The current version of Project Planner allows you to delete the projects that you have created. |

What is the database used by SmartWorks? |

SmartWorks uses flat files as its database. We support the conversion of SmartWorks database to XML standard. Having the database exported in XML would allow one to export the database to other relational databases, which offer importing XML data. We believe this would help the user in moving the database to an ODBC compliant database at any point of time when the user wants.
